TMGH Research Ethics Review

TMGH students and faculty members planning to conduct research involving human subjects (e.g., data, tissue, microorganisms, DNA, genes) both within and outside Japan must obtain ethics approval from the TMGH Internal Review Board (IRB) before commencing their research.

14 July  2025  Exclusively for Master students of TMGH. Doctoral students (Global Health PhD, Joint Degree PhD, and DrPH), faculty members, and others are not eligible.

How to apply
General instructions
・If Form A1/2/3 is involved, send it in MS-Word format. Do not convert to PDF.
・There is no specific format for the
・For the protocol (research plan), integrate all related documents into one PDF.
・Submit files to tmgh_irb@ml.nagasaki-u.ac.jp
・The combined file size should be a maximum 5MB.
・If you do not receive an acknowledged of receipt within 3 working days, notify tmgh_irb@ml.nagasaki-u.ac.jp.

New application
・Due date: Check the submission deadline above.
・Submit 2 files:
 1. Form A1
 2. Protocol

     Revision application
    ・Due date: Within 2 weeks from the date of “Report on Review” for students, and 4 weeks for faculty members. 
    ・Submit 3 files:
     1. Response: Include before/after comparison tables if applicable. Show “which reviewer
      – which comment – what changes”.
     2. Revised Form A1: Highlight changes in color. Update the date and version.
     3. Revised protocol: Highlight changes in color. Update the date and version.

      Amendment application
      ・Due date: Check the submission deadline above.
      ・Submit 3 files: 
       1. Before/after comparison tables, if applicable.
       2. Amended Form A1: Highlight changes in color. Update the date and version.
       3. Amended protocol: Highlight changes in color. Update the date and version.

        Exemption application
        ・Request exemption when you use secondary data.
        ・Submit 2 files:
         1. Form A1: Place a check mark in the “Exemption” box.
         2. Protocol

          Progress report
          The IRB requests you a progress report annually. When you recieves the request, use Form A2.

          Completion report
          Once the research is concluded, submit Form A2.
