To apply, you may either apply for a project from the project list, or you can apply with your own project idea. You can apply for up to 2 projects. To apply for a project from the research project list:
- Read our Joint PhD application guidance and Joint PhD supporting documents
- Select a project(s) from the research project list;
- Contact the listed lead supervisor(s) of your choice to discuss the project and your interest in it;
- Prepare the application and supporting documents for your application – we strongly recommend that you discuss your application with the listed supervisors; and
- Submit your application through the LSHTM online application portal
To apply with your own project idea: It is also possible to apply with your own research project idea in the field of global health. The research idea should not only be novel but also capitalize on the strengths of the partnership between LSHTM and NU. If you are proposing your own idea you will need to identify supervisors in each institution who would supervise your PhD if your application is successful. If you would like to propose your own idea:

- Contact potential supervisors at TMGH or LSHTM
- You may find it helpful to contact the Programme Coordinator, Kazuyo Machiyama (Kazuyo.Machiyama@lshtm.ac.uk) to help you identify potential supervisors. Use the website to look at research taking place across the Universities and identify the members of staff who would be most appropriate to your area of interest.

Application period Upon receipt of notification of being shortlisted (mid-Feb) until 17:30 (Japan Standard Time (JST)) 3 March 2025 Application method Complete the NU Application fee payment and submit a document as proof of payment Selection method Application documents and interview Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed 13 March 2025. Details of the interview will be notified once determined Results JST 10am 25 March 2025 Results will be announced on the Nagasaki University website.
